In this instance size does matter…
The nutritional needs of small breeds differ to those larger breeds. Its not just the size of the kibble that needs to be smaller.
Dachshunds have a faster metabolic rate than large breeds which is linked to them having a greater ratio of body surface area to body weight. This means that they have higher energy requirements per kilo of body weight and therefore need food with a higher calorie content that is nutrient – dense.
Anatomically, Dachshunds also have smaller stomachs, so they aren’t able to consume large meals. Due to this its important to feed a diet that has been specifically designed to support their unique nutritional requirements so that they can get all they need in a smaller portion.
Our Dachshund Superfood recipes have been formulated with a higher level of crude protein and crude fat compared to standard adult recipes. This helps to provide a higher calorie content to support elevated energy requirements of small breeds.
Our recipes also contain high quality freshly prepared proteins which are highly digestible for small breeds. When you decide to make the change to our nutrient rich Dachshund Superfood we would advise a gradual change and to mix in with their old food.
Day 1-2 – 70% old food and 30% new superfood mixed together
Day 3-4 – 50% old food and 50% new superfood mixed together
Day 5 – 30% old food and 70% new superfood mixed together
Day 7 – 100% Dachshund Superfood.

Dry and Wet Combination Feeding Guide
- If you want to feed 50% Superfood Kibble , 50% wet, use the feeding guidelines for each and provide half as much daily. The feeding guides are on the individual packages.
- If you want to feed 75% Superfood Kibble, 25% wet, use the feeding guidelines for each and calculate how much 75% would be for providing dry and 25% of the feeding guidelines for our wet food trays.
- Adjust these amounts over time to achieve ideal body weight. Body condition and weights will fluctuate with activity levels, climate and age. In addition we recommend weighing your dog’s food for better accuracy.
